Juanita McLaren

Social Impact Coordinator

Juanita has two decades of experience in the not for profit sector in Australian, Hong Kong and the UK, mainly working in the areas of fundraising and key relationship management.  She is passionate about the environment and sustainability (having worked with organisations such as The Wilderness Society  and Environmental Justice Australia), and also is a fearless advocate for single mothers experiencing systemic barriers and poverty through the welfare system. Recently Juanita was the first person in Australia to launch an individual complaint (in conjunction with the National Council of Single Mothers and their Children) to the United Nations using the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) optional protocol against the Australian government’s harmful Parenting Payment Single policy. Juanita is also a regular blogger and speaker where she draws on her own experiences as a single mother to give voice to others and to highlight policy gaps and challenge social norms surrounding women’s unpaid work.
