Janet McLean

Data and Systems Effectiveness

Raised in Scotland, Janet’s career began as a software developer, obtaining a Computer Science degree and working in the corporate world with technology giant IBM. After a stint living and working in New York in the banking sector, Janet’s love affair with Australia and its people began when she migrated to Melbourne in 2004.

In Australia, Janet has held positions at a number of large software companies, including several years at business software company MYOB. During her time there, initially as a software developer and later as a business analyst and product manager, she came to understand the challenges faced by small business owners, particularly in remote and regional areas.

During her time living in Victoria, Janet and her husband lived on a rural property in the Yarra Valley wine region. After losing and rebuilding their home after the 2009 bushfires, they experienced first hand the kindness of friends and strangers during challenging times.

In recent years Janet has lived in and worked in Spain, working for a time as a business analyst for the EU Intellectual Property Agency and also running a small holiday property rental business with her husband. During her time in Spain, Janet volunteered at a local men’s homeless refuge, coming to appreciate the challenges that marginalised people can experience in life.

She has also previously volunteered as a remote IT worker for an Australian not-for-profit organisation who aim to empower women through employment and training in Tanzania.

Janet loves to travel and experience different places as a housesitter, and has done dozens of house sits both in Spain and around Australia, looking after owner’s homes and pets in their absence.

Bringing over 20 years experience across technology and business, Janet is passionate about helping women succeed in business and is excited to bring her skills to Global Sisters.

Janet lives in Western Australia an hour south of Perth with her husband.
