Meet Ling

Rescue cat mum, former international development aid worker turned social entrepreneur. Ling lives and runs Sustainable Pet in Melbourne (Naarm), the land of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation.

Like many Australians, she tried to manage the waste she produced from consumption. But for Ling it all came to a head in 2018 when Australia’s recycling crisis came to light and we were confronted by the spectre of the piles of recyclables ending up in landfill.  As a pet owner, Ling also noticed many pet products end up as hard rubbish in landfill. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded in 2020, Ling incubated the idea of a social business that creates products from recycled waste to enhance pet welfare and channel resources towards pet rescue.

Sustainable Pet. “Spoil your pet, not the environment”. Sustainable Pet is a social business with a mission to infuse sustainability into pet ownership. It creates and sells products for pets made from recycled, upcycled and eco-friendly materials, with profits going to pet rescue groups.

Sister Pitch Asks: Ling is seeking support with a pre-order campaign – to get market validation for the flagship cat cubby and to raise the capital for the manufacturing of an initial run. She is also looking for support with brand positioning – to be visible in a crowded market and introductions to influencers – to reach socially and environmentally aware cat owners.
